Stephen Album Rare Coins Auction 30
Stephen Album Rare Coins will hold its Auction 30 on January 18-20, 2018 at its offices in Santa Rosa, California. The auction will comprise of 2,789 lots of Ancient, Islamic, Chinese, General World, and Indian Coins, as well as a small selection of Numismatic Literature. Featured this time are the George Anderson Collection of Tibetan Coins, Part II of the Dr. John Lund Collection of Swedish Coins, and Part I of the Mike Edwards Collection featuring British coins and medals and Swiss shooting medals. Additionally, there are many specimen strikes from the King’s Norton Mint.

Lot 401: Wajihid. ‘Umar b. Yusuf, 952-961. Gold dinar, ‘Uman, AH341. Very Fine, RRRR. Estimate: 4,500-5,500 USD.

Yusuf, 952-961, gold dinar (4.24g), ‘Uman, AH341, Album-A1163, unpublished in Darley-Doran, citing the caliph al-Muti’, with religious phrase below the ruler’s name, and the dynastic word “wajih” below the reverse field, star right in obverse field, pellet right in reverse field, unpublished and of the highest rarity (probably unique), Very Fine, RRRR. Estimated at $4,500 to 5,500
Lot 1186: Great Britain. Victoria, 1837-1901. Silver crown, 1847. PCGS graded Proof 62. Estimate: 5,000-7,000 USD.

Lot 1778: Qing. Gold rectangular cast ingot, undated, ca. 1745. EF, RRR. Estimate: 22,000-26,000 USD.
Lot 1778: Qing: gold rectangular cast ingot (364.71g), 26mm x 79mm x 14mm, undated gold bar circa 1745, weight equal to approximately 10 taels (liang), cast in a boat shape with the top having stamped Chinese characters yuan ji (assayer name) and bao (precious) twice, the underside has stamped characters ding yuan, at right and left, EF, RRR. Estimated at $22,000 to 26,000
Lot 2057: Tibet. Pattern silver 5 sho, ND (1928-30). PCGS graded EF40, RR, ex George Anderson Collection. Estimate: 6,000-7,000 USD.
Lot 2057: Tibet: pattern silver 5 sho (5.02g), ND (1928-30), KM-PnA12, YZM-497, Autonomous Tibetan issue, crouching snow lion, facing left, looking diagonally upwards right with sun and three ornaments above and small mountain below, within a circular border to which eight lotus petals are attached, each containing one of the eight Buddhist auspicious emblems, with circle and beaded border around // Tibetan legend “zho lnga” (“five sho”) at center of an ornamental cartouche, with the standard legend which refers to the Tibetan Government: “dga’ ldan pho brang phyogs las rnam rayal” around, the legend’s syllables separated by the usual beads (Tibetan “tsheg” = “syllable marker”), this surrounded by a circle composed of cloud-shaped elements connected by arches, between each pair of which there is a bead, all within a beaded circular border, PCGS graded EF40, RR, ex George Anderson Collection. Estimated at $6,000 to 7,000

Lot 2393: Mughal: Jahangir, 1605-1628, gold mohur (10.88g), Kabul, year 18, KM-178.8, short couplet “ta zanad az nam-i jahangir shah // sekke bovad nur dah mehr o mah”. “so long as the coin is struck in the name of Jahangir Shah //may it give light to gold [mehr] and silver [mah]”, VF, RRR. Estimated at $30,000 to 35,000
Sikh Empire. Gold mohur, Amritsar, VS1843 year GN31x. Choice EF, RRRR. Estimate: 15,000-20,000 USD.
Lot 2547: Sikh Empire: gold mohur (11.55g), Amritsar, VS1843 year GN31x, Herrli-“01.05.01”, Misl period, struck in the Bhangi Misl, centered at Amritsar, then under the rule of Ghulab Singh Bhangi; mount attached, unique and the earliest known Sikh Empire coin struck in gold, choice EF, RRRR. Estimated at $15,000 to 20,000
Lots will be available for viewing at the New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) January 11 to 14, 2018.
