The US Mint in Philadelphia has an open position of a Lead Medallic Artist.

Duties
This position is located in the Manufacturing Department, Design & Sculpting Division, Sculptor Engraving Branch of the United States Mint in Philadelphia, PA. The purpose of this lead position is to provide the artistic direction required during the development of coin and medal designs and models and to create designs and models for use in manufacturing hubs and or dies for United States Mint coinage, Congressional gold medals, and other devices.

Responsibilities
As a Lead Medallic Artist, you will:

  • Provide the artistic direction required during the development of coin and medal designs and models and to create designs and models for use in manufacturing hubs and or dies for United States Mint coinage, Congressional gold medals, and other devices.
  • Recommend appropriate technical modifications and changes to optimize and promote efficient and effective coin and medal production.
  • Articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
  • Ensure that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
  • Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g., in work methods, processes and procedures).

Travel Required
Occasional travel: 1-5 nights per month

Who May Apply
This job is open to all candidates who are current or former federal employees qualifying as Status Candidates, VEOA eligibles, CTAP/ICTAP eligibles, eligible for special hiring authorities (e.g., the Schedule A appointment for persons with disabilities, or covered by an Interchange Agreement).

Conditions of Employment: Must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 14 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Designing, sculpting, and creating finished renderings for coinage and medals using digital design; AND
  • Leading or managing a team of employees and monitoring their progress towards achieving project goals and objectives; AND
  • Providing advice and guidance on artistic design to varied audiences.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.
